In 2017, in a sculptural and performative work that I called ‘For the Journey and Return’, I crossed the North Sea by sailing boat and walked 500 miles through Southern Norway on a medieval pilgrim path to Nidaros Cathedral, towing a 40 kilogram Orcadian stone behind me. In 2023, my account of that adventure, ‘Stone Will Answer’ was published by Harvill Secker. 

I have been a regular speaker about the book at literary and arts festivals including Wigtown book festival, Boswell book festival, G10 Amsterdam, Kendall Mountain book festival, Wild Writers festival Peebles, Oxford Literary festival, and on Radio 4’s Saturday Live.
