In 2017, in a sculptural and performative work that I called ‘For the Journey and Return’, I crossed the North sea by sailing boat and walked 500 miles through Southern Norway on a medieval pilgrim path to Nidaros Cathedral, towing a 40 kilogram Orcadian stone behind me. In 2023, my account of that adventure, Stone Will Answer, was published by Harvill Secker. I am a regular speaker about the book at literary festivals and have also written for Granta, the magazine of new writing.
